Even though he is a famous musician he is altogether a radio host, author, fashion designer and photographer. He is best known for his role as bassist and songwriter in Mötley Crüe. Born in San Jose, California, United States, Nikki was brought up by his mother and later by his grandparents when his mother left. He moved quite a bit during his stay with his grandparents. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath are to name a few. Nikki got into trouble when he was living with his grandparents in Idaho. At the age of 17 Nikki moved to Los Angeles. After moving he held various jobs that allowed him to audition for bands. He landed himself in the band Sister after he answered in a local newspaper. The band fired Nikki after they recorded a demo. He legally changed his name to Nikki Sixx in the 1970s.

In 1981 Nikki formed Mötley Crüe with drummer Tommy Lee. Later Guitarist Mick Mars and Vince Neil joined the band. They self recorded and released their debut album “Too Fast for Love” in 1981. In 1982 they re-released when they signed with Epic Records. Their 1983 “Shout at the Devil” gained wide popularity. Throughout the 80s they released several albums. In 1989 they released “Dr. Feelgood” and the album was on charts for 114 weeks.

Throughout the 90s they released three albums. In 1999 Tommy Lee left the band. In 2004, Mötley Crüe reunited and Nikki revealed that he was sober. They did a reunion tour in 2006. Nikki released his autobiography in 2007. In 2008 Mötley Crüe released their last and final album. After a while in 2015 the band announced their retirement.

Nikki inaugurated a clothing line called “Royal Underground” in 2006. He hosted Sixx sense with Kerri Kasem in 2010. Mötley Crüe announced in 2020 a summer stadium tour but it was canceled due to COVID-19. In 2023 Nikki revealed that the band was producing another album.

Throughout his time in Mötley Crüe, Nikki was a heroin addict. He revealed that he overdosed about half a dozen times. Nikki overdosed on heroin in December of 1987. He was clinically dead for two minutes but was revived by paramedics. At that time he had two syringes full of adrenaline.
